GIVE MY REGARDS TO THE ALPS
10 channel video installation
The project's issue is about how perception is
influenced by global image prototypes reproduced
in different medias, e.g. postcards or tv.
Usually postcards show a bright lightened sujet,
the image of a place, anchored in the mind of
everyone which has nothing to do with the true
environment of mountain nature. Especially
mountainscapes of distinction are very often
reproduced.
Another important aspect is how climate change
impacts on the Alps landscape. Glaciers are
melting, less snow precipitation is observed and
leisure activities like skying and snow boarding
will find less acceptable conditions. Today the
environment of the high mountain range is more and
more shaped in order to meet human needs. More and
more regions in ancient time unaccessible are now
at hand for car drivers, mountain bikers, hikers
etc. And with this change comes pollution of
different kind, e.g. air pollution, sound
pollution, smoke pollution.
The footage for this video collage has been taken
at Simplon pass, Black Forest sites and Jura
mountain Chasseral in western Switzerland.
The current video installation composes a
landscape panorama by screenings on up to ten
screens at the same time. Some of the
mountainscapes are unchanged, others show a
different composition of Mountains and valleys
every 30 seconds. The mountain“s panorama changes
from late summer impressions of indian summer
trees to snowy hills and white peaks.
